Potential Development of El Niño Conditions
Potential Development of El Niño Conditions
Issued at 1-06-2026
The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) over the Tropical Pacific Ocean near the equator indicate the possible development of El Niño conditions. According to forecasts from International Meteorological Agencies based on Numerical Weather Prediction Models, weak El Niño conditions have already developed and strong El Niño conditions could occur toward the end of 2026.
Although El Niño is a phenomenon that occurs in the Pacific Ocean, its impacts can generally lead to irregular rainfall patterns, higher day temperatures, abnormal storm activity, drought and other extreme weather events.
Updates regarding the development of El Niño conditions will continue to be issued in a timely manner.
