Cyclonic Storm “Asani”

According to the observations at (10:00)hrs M.S.T today, the deep depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal has moved West-Northwestwards and intensified into a Cyclonic Storm “Asani”. It is centered at about (220) Nautical miles West of Port Blair, (500) Nautical miles Southeast of Vishakhapatnam, (530) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Puri, (India), (300) Nautical miles Southwest of Coco-Island and (410) Nautical miles Southwest of Hainggyigyun (Myanmar).

It is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the Cyclonic Storm “Asani” is coded yellow stage.

            The Cyclonic Storm “Asani” is located at Latitude (11.5) degree North and Longitude (89.0) degree East, centre pressure of Cyclonic Storm “Asani” is (998) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (40-45) miles per hour at (10:00)hrs MST today.

During next (72) hrs forecast

The Cyclonic Storm “Asani” is likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the East Central Bay of Bengal during next (24) hours. It is forecast continuous to move Northwestwards and reach to West Central Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal (off north Andhra­ Pradesh-Odisha coasts, India) around (10.5.2022) and recurve to North-Northeastwards and reach to Northwest Bay of Bengal (off  Odisha coast, India). 

General caution

Due to the Cyclonic Storm “Asani”, rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread to widespread in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin, Mon States and scattered in the remaining Regions and States with likelihood of regionally and isolated heavyfalls in some Regions and States from today morning to (12.5.2022). Occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (40) m.p.h. Wave height will be about (8-12) feet off and along Myanmar Coasts.

Due to the Cyclonic Storm “Asani”, people should be aware rain or thundershowers with strong wind and domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships in off and along Myanmar Coasts.
