10-1-2026: According to the observations at 05:30 hrs MST today, the Deep Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal has moved Northwestwards. It is centered at about 855 Nautical miles Southwest of Coco-Island (Myanmar), 55 Nautical miles East-Northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and 270 Nautical miles Southeast of Puducherry(Sri Lanka). It is likely to move Northwestwards, weaken into a Depression and may cross North Sri Lanka coast between Trincomalee and Jaffna. Weather is a few cloud over the Andaman Sea, North Bay and Eastcentral Bay and partly cloudy to cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Early Warning For Weather Events During Pre Monsoon Season No.(6/2024)

1.       During the period of Pre Monsoon Season (from mid May to before the onset of Southwest Monsoon into Myanmar and during the intrusion of Southwest Monsoon into Myanmar), isolated rain or thundershowers are likely in the afternoon or evening accompanied with strong wind, hails, thunder and lightning, due to the convective cloud by gradually rising day temperatures in the whole country. Surface wind speed in strong wind may reach 40 mph to 50 mph.

 

2.         Public is advised to take necessary awareness with the weather events during the Pre Monsoon Season (from mid May to before the onset of Southwest Monsoon into Myanmar and during the intrusion of Southwest Monsoon into Myanmar) and domestic airlines and cruises are also advised to take precautionary measures.
