24-5-2024: According to the observations at (09:30) hrs M.S.T today, the well marked low pressure area over Westcentral Bay and adjoining South Bay of Bengal has moved Northeastwards and intensified into a depression over Central Bay of Bengal. It is centered at about (300) Nautical miles North-Northwest of Coco Island, (360) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Hainggyigyun, (395) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Gwa, (400) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Thandwe (Myanmar), (410) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and (425) Nautical miles South of Canning (West Bangal, India).Monsoon is strong over the Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal.  Weather is a few cloud over the North Bay and cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclonic Storm

According to the observations at (17:30)hrs M.S.T today, the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” over North Bay of Bengalhas moved North-Northeastwards and centered at about (270) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Thandwe, (170) Nautical miles West of Sittwe, (145) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Maungdaw (Myanmar), (130) Nautical miles Southeast of Sagar Island (India) and (145) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Barisal(Bangladesh).

It is not moving towards Myanmar Coasts, the present stage of the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” is coded yellow stage.

            The Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” is located at Latitude (20.3) degree North and Longitude (89.9) degree East, centre pressure of Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”is (995) hPaand maximum wind speed near the center is (50-55) miles per hour at (17:30)hrs MST today.

During next (18) hrs forecast

 It is likely comtinueto move North-Northeastwards and intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” during next (6) hours and will cross Bangladesh Coasts between Tincona Island and Sandwip Island during next (12)hrs.

General caution

Due to Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, likelihood of fairly widespread to widespread rain or thundershowers in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, AyeyarwadyRegions and Kachin, Chin, Rakhine States with regionally and isolated heavyfalls in some Regions and States from tonight  to (26.10.2022).

Frequently squall with rough to very rough seas will be experienced in off and along RakhineCoasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach (60-65) mph. Squall with rough seas are likely at timesin Gulf of Deltaic,Mottama, off and along Mon-TaninthayiCoasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach (35-40) mph.Wave height will be about (14-18) feet in off and along Rakhine Coastand (9-11) feet in Gulf of Deltaic,Mottama, off and along Mon-TaninthayiCoasts.

Rakhine Coast, Myanmar which is located on the right-hand side of the Cyclonic Storm’s path, maximum wind speed may reach (35-45) mph in Chin, Rakhine States and maximum wind speed may reach (20-25) mph in Lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions.

Advisory

Under the influence of the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, people should be awared of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.
