Deep Depression Condition

            According to the observations at 05:30 hrs MST today, the depression over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Strait of Malacca has moved Westwards and intensified into a Deep Depression. It is centered at about 300 Nautical miles South-Southwest of Kawthaung (Myanmar), 135 Nautical miles West-Southwest of Penang(Malaysia), 60 Nautical miles East of Kuta Makmur(Indonesia) and  400 Nautical miles Southeast of Car Nicobar (India).

It does not intend to move towards Myanmar coasts at the present stage and therefore the Deep Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Deep Depression, center pressure and wind

The Deep Depression is located at Latitude 5.1 degree North and Longitude 98.1 degree East, centre pressure of Depression is 1002 hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is 35 miles per hour at 05:30 hrs MST today.

Next 48 hours forecast

It is likely to move West-Northwestwards and further intensify into a Cyclone Storm and may cross Northern parts of Indonesia.

General Caution

Due to the Deep Depression, occassional squalls with rough seas will be experienced in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach 35 mph. Wave height will be about 9-11 feet in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.

 

Advisory

People should be awared due to the depression domestic aviation, near-shore and offshore fishing vessels, and ships along the Myanmar coastline and offshore are also advised to take precautions.
