Depression

According to the observations at (17:30)hrs M.S.T today, the Depression over South Bay of Bengal moved West-Northwestwards. It is centered at about (570) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Coco Island, (685) Nautical miles Southwest ofHainggyigyun(Myanmar), (285) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Trincomalee, (370) Nautical miles East-Northeast of Colombo (Sri Lanka)and(405) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Karaikal(India).

It does not intend to move towards Myanmar coasts at the present stage and therefore the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Depression, center pressure and wind

            The Depression is located at Latitude (8.0) degree North and Longitude (86.0) degree East, centre pressure of Depression is (1004) hPaand maximum wind speed near the center is (30) miles per hour at (17:30)hrs MST today.

 

During next (48) hrs forecast

 It is likely continue to move West-Northwestwards and then recurve South-Southwest wards and cross Siri Lanka coasts around (1.2.2023).

 

General caution

Due to the Depression, strong winds with moderate to rough seas are likely at time off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in strongwind may reach (30-35) mph. Wave height will be about (7-9) feet in off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.
