Depression

According to the observations at (12:30)hrs M.S.T today, the Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal has moved West-Northwestwards and it is centered at about (650) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Coco Island, (760) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Hainggyigyun (Myanmar), (165) Nautical miles East of Trincomalee(Sri Lanka)and (290) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Karaikal(India).

It does not intend to move towards Myanmar coasts at the present stage and therefore the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Depression, center pressure and wind

 The Depression is located at Latitude (8.4) degree North and Longitude (84.0) degree East, centre pressure of Depression is (1004) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (30) miles per hour at (05:30)hrs MST today.

During next (36) hrs forecast

 It is likely continue to move West-Northwestwards and then recurve West-Southwest wards and cross Siri Lanka coasts around (1.2.2023).

General caution

Due to the Depression, strong winds with moderate to rough seas are likely at time in Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in strong wind may reach (30-35) mph. Wave height will be about (7-9) feet in Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.
