Onset and withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

Southwest monsoon is likely to set into the whole country during (31^st of May  – 5^th of June), 2026. Southwest monsoon is likely to retreat from the whole country 2^nd week of October, 2026.

Early Monsoon Period Forecast

The early monsoon period is establishment of Southwest Monsoon over Myanmar to the end of June. Four Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and two may further intensify into the Depression. During the early monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate to strong. Rain will be expected above normal in Yangon, Bago, Ayeyarwady Regions and Mon States and about normal in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway, Sagaing, Taninthayi Regions and Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Rakhine, Shan States

Mid Monsoon Period Forecast

Mid Monsoon period is a period of starting from 1^st July to the end of August. Four Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and two may further intensify into the Depressions. During the mid-monsoon period, monsoon will be strong. Rain or thundershower will be expected above normal in Yangon, Bago, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Kayin, Mon, Rakhine States about normal in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway, Sagaing Regions and Kachin, Kayah, Chin, Rakhine, Shan States.

Late Monsoon Period Forecast

Late Monsoon period is a period starting from 1^st September to the date of Monsoon withdrawal from the Whole Country. Four Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and two may further intensify into the Depressions. During the late monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate. Rain will be expected about normal in Naypyitaw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, Shan States.
