Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”

            According to the observations at (03:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”over the EastcentralBay of Bengal has moved North- Northwest wards and has further intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”. It is centered at about (330) Nautical miles Northwestof Coco Island, about (335) Nautical miles West of Pathein (Myanmar), about (205) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Paradip, about (260) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Digha(India).

It is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the Severe Cyclonic Storm“YAAS” is coded yellow stage.

            The Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”is located at Latitude (17.6) degree North and Longitude (89.0) degree East, centre pressure of depression is (986) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (65) miles per hour at (03:30) hrs MST today.

During next (48) hrs Forecast

            The Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”is likely to move North-Northwestwards and forecast to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS” during next (12)hrs. It is forecast toreach Northwest Bay of Bengal and cross Odisha and West Bengal Coasts by during next (48)hrs.

General caution

Due to the Severe Cyclonic Storm “YAAS”,rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread to widespread in Bago, Yangon and AyeyarwadyRegions, Rakhine States with isolated heavy falls in Bago, Yangon and AyeyarwadyRegions, Rakhine State during next (48)hrs commencing today morning.

Occasional squalls with very rough seas will be experienced in Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coast. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (40-45)m.p.h. Squalls with rough seas are likely at times Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35-40)m.p.h. Wave height will be about (13 -17)feet in Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coast and about (9-13)feet in Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.
