Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” Condition

According to the observations at (12:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” over the Northwest Bay of Bengal has moved Northeastwards and intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” over Northwest Bay and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal. It is centered at about (290) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Thandwe, (190) Nautical miles West of Sittwe, (170) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Maungdaw (Myanmar), (160) Nautical miles East of Paradip, (150) Nautical miles Southeast of Digha (India), (125) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Khepupara and (190) Nautical miles Southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh).

The present stage of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” is coded yellow stage. Although it is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, Chin and Nothern Rakhine States, Myanmar will be affected due to the banding features of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON”.

Very Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is located at Latitude (20.0) degree North and Longitude (89.5) degree East, centre pressure of Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is (985) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (75-80) miles per hour at (12:30) hrs MST today.

During next (36) hrs forecast

The Very Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is likely to move Northeastwards and weaken into a Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” during next (9)hrs. It is likely to cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong as a Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” during next (36)hrs.

 General caution

Due to the Very Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON”, rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions and Kachin, (Northern and Southern)Shan, Chin, Rakhine States, scattered to fairly widespread in Naypyitaw, Eastern Shan State with regionally and isolated heavyfalls in Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions and Chin, Rakhine States. Occasionally squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Rakhine Coast. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (40-45) m.p.h. Wave height will be about (9-12) feet in off and along Rakhine Coast from commencing today afternoon to (26.10.2023).

Under the influence of the Very Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON”, people should be awared and avoided of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Rakhine Coasts.
