Depression Condition

            According to the observations at 15:30 hrs MST today, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Strait of Malacca has intensified into a depression. It is centered at about 285 Nautical miles South-Southeast of Kawthaung (Myanmar), 50 Nautical miles West-Northwest of Penang(Malaysia), 260 Nautical miles East of Banda Aceh (Indonesia) and  470 Nautical miles Southeast of Car Nicobar(India).

It does not intend to move towards Myanmar coasts at the present stage and therefore the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Depression, center pressure and wind

The Depression is located at Latitude 5.4 degree North and Longitude 99.7 degree East, centre pressure of Depression is 1006 hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is 30 miles per hour at 15:30 hrs MST today.

Next 48 hours forecast

It is likely to move West-Northwestwards and further intensify during next 48 hours.

General Caution

Due to the depression, occassional squalls with rough seas will be experienced in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach 35 mph. Wave height will be about 9-11 feet in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.

 

Advisory

People should be awared due to the depression domestic aviation, near-shore and offshore fishing vessels, and ships along the Myanmar coastline and offshore are also advised to take precautions.
