 24-7-2025: According to the observations at 17:30 hrs MST today, the Low Pressure Area over North Bay of Bengal still persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and further intensify into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal, India and Bangladesh Coasts during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move towards West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha Coasts, India during next 36 hours. Monsoon is vigorous over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, rain or thundershower have been isolated in Naypyitaw and Eastern Shan State, scattered in  Mandalay Region and  Northern Shan State, fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing Region and Kachin State and widespread in the remaining Regions and States with regionally heavy falls in Rakhine and Kayin States, isolated heavy falls in Bago Region, Kachin and  Mon States. The noteworthy amounts of rainfall recorded were Myitkyina (10.24) inches, Kyeikmayaw (7.30)inches,  Thandwe (6.81)inches, Manaung (5.79)inches, Sittwe (3.86)inches, Nyaunglaybin (3.30)inches, Kawkayeit (3.27)inches, Paingkyone (3.19)inches, Kyaukphyu and  Chaungsone (2.72) inches each, Taungkok (2.48) inches, Ann and Myawady (2.36)inches each, Kyauktaw (2.32)inches and Myauk U(2.20)inches.

BAY INFERENCE:  Yesterday the low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. According to the observations at (12:00)hrs M.S.T today, the depression remained practically stationary and it is centered  at about (75)miles South-Southeast of Kolkata,  India. It is likely to intensify and forecast to move West - Northwest wards. Monsoon is strong to vigorous over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

FORECAST VALID UNTIL EVENING OF THE 18th August, 2016: Rain or thundershowers will be scattered in Naypyitaw, Lower Sagaing , Mandalay  and Magway Regions, Shan and Kayah States, fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing Region and  Kachin  State and widespread in the remaining Regions and States with likelihood of regionally heavy falls in Rakhine State and isolated heavy falls in Kayin and Mon States. Degree of certainty is (100%).

STATE OF THE SEA: Occasionally squalls with rough sea will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (40) m.p.h.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Strong monsoon.
