SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, weather has been partly cloudy in Sagaing Region, Kachin, (Northern and Eastern)Shan and Kayah States, rain or thundershowers have been isolated in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway and Ayeyarwady Regions, Chin and Rakhine States, scattered in Yangon Region, Southern Shan, Kayin and Mon States and widespread in Bago and Taninthayi Regions. The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were Hlaingbwe (2.70)inches, Kawthaung (2.12)inches, Myeik (1.57)inches, Taunggu (1.26)inches, Paing Kyone (1.11)inches, Labutta (0.79)inch, Hpa-an (0.67)inch and Theinzayet (0.55)inch.
BAY INFERENCE: Monsoon is strong over the Andaman Sea and South Bay and weak to moderate elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.
SPECIAL FEATURES: According to the observations at (13:30)hrs MST today, Typhoon “Mangkhut” over the South China Sea has crossed to Southern China Coast near Hongkong, it has downgraded into the land depression. It is forecast to move West- Northwestwards and weaken gradually.
FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 18th September, 2018: Rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Taninthayi Region, fairly widespread in Bago Region, Kayin and Mon States, scattered in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Kachin, Shan and Kayah states and isolated in the remaining Regions and States with isolated heavy falls in Taninthayi Region. Degree of certainty is (100%).
STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (30-35)m.p.h. Sea will be slight to moderate elsewhere in Myanmar waters. Wave height will be about (7-9)feet in Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts and about (3 -6)feet in off and along Rakhine Coasts.
OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Likelihood of increase of rain in Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Kachin, Shan, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon States.
